Founded in 2023, Ranipur Ferro Alloys is a renowned manufacturer and producer of ferro alloys including but not limited to calcium carbide, playing a vital role in fulfilling the demand of acetylene gas primarily in the steel industry, followed by nonferrous metals, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and paints, etc. We have built upon the rich heritage and expertise of our parent company, Ranipur Sugar Mills (RSM) founded in 1998.

RFL was established by the visionary directors of RSM with the aim of adding value to various industries through the utilization of calcium carbide. Leveraging our extensive knowledge and understanding of biomass products, we ventured into the world of Ferro Alloys to cater the growing demands of acetylene gas for its use of welding and cutting steel products, manufacturing of synthetic rubber, resin, PVC (polyvinyl chloride), insecticides, acetone, ketene, carbon black, dyes & pigments, etc.

Raw Material Preparation

The first step in the production of calcium carbide involves the preparation of raw materials. The primary raw materials used are lime and coke. Lime, also known as calcium oxide (CaO), is obtained from limestone, while coke is derived from coal. Both materials undergo crushing and grinding processes to achieve the desired particle size and ensure uniformity.

Carbonization and Electrode Heating

Once the raw materials are prepared, they are introduced into an electric arc furnace. In the carbonization process, coke and lime react at high temperatures to form calcium oxide and carbon monoxide. The intense heat generated by the electric arc furnace facilitates this reaction. Additionally, the furnace electrodes are heated to maintain the required temperature for the subsequent steps.

Carbide Formation and Tapping

As the carbonization process progresses, calcium oxide reacts with carbon to produce calcium carbide (CaC2). This reaction takes place within the furnace at temperatures exceeding 2000 degrees Celsius. The molten calcium carbide accumulates at the bottom of the furnace and is periodically tapped or drained into molds or cooling chambers for solidification.

Cooling, Crushing, and Packaging

After the calcium carbide is tapped, it undergoes a cooling process to stabilize its temperature. The solidified carbide is then crushed into smaller granules or powder to facilitate handling and usage. Following the crushing stage, the calcium carbide is carefully packaged to maintain its quality and prevent exposure to moisture or other contaminants.
